Pay Your Workers well, SunyaniKrontihene tells Radio Managers



The Krontihene of Sunyani Traditional Area, Oboaman Bofotia Boamposem is urging owners of media houses to adequately pay their workers to ensure professionalism in the media space.

Speaking at the launch of the Brong Ahafo 2018 Ghana Journalists Association Awards, the royal indicated most journalist who are less remunerated stand a high risk of being compromised in the delivery of their mandate.

"As humans, there's a likelihood of being influenced if conditions of service are poor especially logistically and financially , of which they are the basic means of survival. In an incident of exposing corrupt acts, the culprit is likely to bribe his way through to block the explosion if the journalist is handicapped at his or her work place" he opined.

He chanced upon the opportunity to entreat political leaders and the security services to provide security to augment the efforts of journalists in the region.

The president of the association in the region, Larry Paa Kwesi Moses hinted the association through the award scheme is garnishing its relentless effort to ensure responsible journalism in the region.

"The B/A-GJA is determined to ensure that journalists and that matter media practitioners in the region discharge their constitutional obligations in accordance with ethics of the profession" he stressed.

Explaing what informed the theme for the awards "PROMOTING RESPONSIBLE MINING - ROLE OF THE MEDIA", the vibrant leader said " the awards seek to recognize, appreciate and acknowledge the role of the media towards holistic development of the region and the country by extensuon " he revealed.

He again noted the association is determined to weed out practitioners whose activities do not conform to the ethical standards of the profession to uphold the noble image of the profession.

Speaking on behalf of the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Honourable Evans Opoku Bobie, Assistant Director Mike Gyamfi noted the Regional Coordinating Council is poised to ensure condusive environment for the media to operate in the region.

The five member committee to steer the seventeen-cotegory is chaired by Dr Leonard Victor Amengo with Lawyer Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, Gloria Fofie Amponsah and Kwabena Asumih Gyamfi.
